So this is one of my favourite forests in the area. It’s just off Maidensgrove Common in the Chiltern Hills. It’s the inspiration of so much in The Woodlander, but in particular, Chapter Thirteen: Above the Hazels … where Silva Holt takes a new path to find specimens to study and ends up the curly oak forest … and is surprised by someone she didn’t expect.
